Prejudice & Racism Editorial Review
**Editorial Review of *Wishtree*** Katherine Applegate’s *Wishtree* offers a thought-provoking narrative that resonates with both young readers and adults alike, capturing the essence of empathy, friendship, and the beauty of community through an unexpected lens – that of a wise old oak tree named Red. This unique perspective not only enhances the storytelling but also serves as a gentle reminder of the growth that can emerge from adversity. The narrative intertwines the lives of diverse characters in a neighborhood around Red, who stands as a steadfast symbol of hope and unity. The story unfolds gracefully, featuring a mix of heartwarming moments and profound life lessons, particularly around themes of kindness and acceptance reflected through the interaction of the neighborhood animals and the challenges faced by a new Muslim family. Readers are treated to enchanting Prose that is both engaging for younger audiences and thoughtful for adults, making it a perfect family read-aloud. Many reviewers noted how the book adeptly captures their children's attention, sparking discussions around important social themes while also providing an immersive, imaginative experience. Though the ending left some questioning the choices made, the overwhelming sentiment is that *Wishtree* is a must-read, filled with insights that stick with you long after the last page is turned. With beautiful illustrations and eloquent language, Applegate invites readers to find joy in the shared stories of those around them, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Overall, *Wishtree* has quickly established itself as a cherished addition to children’s literature, promoting values that are just as pertinent today as they were generations ago. **
