The tool's opening is only 1/8" wide, and it is not recommended for use with a 1/2" diameter post head. This tool is great for some springs as long as there is room to use it, but a slim screwdriver worked better for placing the upper rear spring on some car's rear brakes. Overall, it is worth a try but not perfect.
