It comes with a shaft mounted in it and can be easily fastened to the aft of most kayaks. The product does not come with a mount to attach to a boat, but it is easy to fabricate one using L brackets. The skeg has a pin that is about 3/8 inch and 4 or 5 inches long. It can be partially deployed at any level, and there is some tension in the cable system, which allows it to be cleated off at any level. If the skeg fully lowers and strikes something, it is free to rise up somewhat as needed, making it a rock-solid piece. Some customers have shown that the pin on the skeg could easily be used as a pivot point for a rudder by maintaining enough resistance on the rudder. Advanced Elements Airfusion Skeg, Black is not a rudder but a skeg that comes with control lines to raise and lower the skeg.
