The loose ring design provides more play on the bit, making it suitable for mouthy horses. However, it is important to note that the bit runs small. One customer with a 14.2H mare ordered a 5" version of the bit, assuming it would fit, but the actual space to work with was only about 4.5". The customer had to return it and order the next size up, which was a full inch larger than what they would normally need. Another customer also mentioned that they found the 5" version to be too narrow and ordered a 5.5" instead.
